  • 2005: BP Texas City Incident 
  • 2006:  Release of HSE, UK HSG 254 Developing Process Safety Indicators
  • 2007: US Chemical Safety Board Incident Report and Independent Baker Panel Report:
    • No existing consensus on process safety metrics/API tasked to develop process safety metrics.

  • 2007: Many NGOs began work on process safety metrics (CCPS, ACC, API, OECD, EHS, NPRA, etc.)
  • 2008: Release of CCPS process safety metrics guideline (white paper), “Process Safety Leading and Lagging Metrics”
  • 2009: Release CCPS book, Guidelines on Process Safety Metrics
  • 2010: Release of API RP 754: Process Safety Performance Indicators, 1st Edition
  • 2011: Harmonization of API and CCPS process safety metrics guideline/CCPS Releases revised process safety metrics guideline (white paper), “Process Safety Leading and Lagging Metrics, 2nd Ed”
  • 2011:  Release of CEFIC Guidance on Process Safety Performance Indicators
  • 2011:  IOGP Report 456, Process Safety – Recommended Practice of Key Performance Indicators
  • 2015:  Release of iChemE Lead Process Safety Metrics, selecting, tracking, and learning
  • 2016:  Release of IOGP Report 556, Process Safety – Leading key performance indicators (Supplement to Report 456)
  • 2016:  Release of API RP-754, revised, 2nd Ed.
  • 2018:  Release of CCPS process safety metrics guideline (final edition), “Process Safety Metrics:  Guide for Selecting Leading and Lagging Indicators”
  • 2018 and beyond:  Migration of CCPS process safety metrics content to this website.  Creating repository of process safety metrics information, examples, surveys, and links to various guides and reference material
