As hydrogen initiatives accelerate globally, many utilities and industrial facilities are exploring the introduction of hydrogen into natural gas systems to reduce carbon intensity. However, even low-percentage hydrogen blends introduce new safety, material compatibility, and regulatory considerations that must be understood and managed effectively.
The Center for Hydrogen Safety has championed an industry working group focused on safety in hydrogen-natural gas blending, culminating in a document on Best Safety Practices in Hydrogen-Natural Gas Blending. This webinar provides an overview of this safety guideline and disseminates key takeaways from the working group.
Presenters will discuss how hydrogen impacts key parameters such as flame speed, leak behavior, ignition risk, and material compatibility. Real-world data and end-use examples will illustrate how system integrity and risk profiles evolve with increasing hydrogen content.
Attendees will learn how to evaluate safety implications, inform risk-based assessments, and identify operational and design measures that support safe hydrogen blending within natural gas pipelines, distribution systems, and end-use applications.
