Green Collar Engineering Opportunities for Chemical Engineers - Conducted May 2022

The Environmental Division (ED) of AIChE held two widely attended webinars related to environmental career opportunities for chemical engineering students in 2021. These webinars greatly helped the participating students learn more about potential career paths in the environmental field.

Based on last year’s success, the ED has decided to organize another career opportunity webinar this on May 10, 2022. If you, as either an undergraduate or graduate student, would like to find out more about careers in the environmental field that chemical engineers can pursue, please check out this webinar. The panelists have accumulated very rich education, research, and industrial experience in various aspects of the environmental profession that they will share with you.

During the webinar, you will hear from them about how to find your first job in the environmental field as a degreed chemical engineer, how to pursue a Master’s or PhD degree, etc. The panelists also discuss the benefits of joining our Division (free for undergraduate students).

Dr. Matthew Alexander, Associate Professor of Chemical and Natural Gas Engineering at Texas A&M University-Kingsville.

His research focuses on renewable energy production and environmental remediation. He spent 25 years as an environmental engineer with consulting companies.

Dr. Heriberto Cabezas, Professor at the Research Institute of Applied Earth Science at the University of Miskolc in Hungary.

He retired as Senior Science Advisor, Land and Material Management Division, U.S. EPA in April 2019. He is a recipient of numerous awards. Dr. Cabezas is a decorated U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam Conflict.

Dr. Yinlun Huang, Professor of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science at Wayne State University.

His research focuses on process systems engineering, sustainability science and engineering, and smart manufacturing. He has extensive industrial collaboration experience with chemical, automotive, and energy sectors.

Dr. Selma Mededovic Thagard is Richard and Helen March Professor of chemical engineering at Clarkson University.
