The mission of the US DOE's Office of Environmental Management (EM) is to complete the safe cleanup of the environmental legacy brought about from five decades of nuclear weapons development, production, and Government-sponsored nuclear energy research. This webinar will give a brief history of DOE-EM and the Nuclear Weapons Complex and an overview of EM clean-up operations. Cleanup operations include facility decontamination and decommissioning (D&D), tank waste disposition; transuranic and low level waste disposal; groundwater and soil remediation; and storage, treatment and disposal of DOE spent fuel and other special nuclear materials.
