Every one of us in the field of chemical engineering has invested many hours in the learning and application of principles of chemistry, biology, physics, and math to solve problems that involve the production or use of chemicals, fuel, drugs, food, and many other products. Indeed, chemical engineers apply mathematics, chemistry and other natural sciences to develop practical ways of using energy and materials for the benefit of society. I love to say we make relevant and impactful chemistry and processes happen. But what about the soft skills? This is where Emotional Intelligence becomes a must have. In this presentation, we will highlight how emotional intelligence or the ability to identify, understand and manage emotions is critical in STEM fields and especially during times of crisis. We will explain how self-awareness and self-regulation, intrinsic motivation, empathy and social skills can help you go further in your career and are must haves for managers and leaders of today.
