Process Intensification Credential Program

This is one of three focus tracks for the Process Intensification credential program. You only need to complete one track to receive your PI credential.

The PI credential, upon completion, is valid for two years. When you’re eligible to renew your credential, you’ll be notified via email and be required to complete 4 additional hours of continuing education in order to renew your PI credential.

  • Increase your employability - half of companies surveyed said they would be more likely to hire a candidate certified in PI over a non-certified candidate.
  • Equip you with tools to add greater value to your organization (identifying opportunities for increased efficiency, lower CAPEX & lower OPEX).
  • Help organizations identify qualified people.
  • Increase retention within organizations.

The completion of this credential represents the recipient’s knowledge and competency in the area of process intensification. The credential is valid for two years upon passing the final exam.

  • Define Process Intensification and compare PI with other process improvement approaches.
  • Describe how enhancing and balancing the rate of fundamental steps (chemical reaction, heat-, and mass transfer) is key to PI, and select approaches to achieve such enhancement.
  • Recognize the elementary steps of systematic process design and process intensification.
  • Learn different modeling, simulation and optimization approaches for various intensified unit operations.
  • Recognize the interconnections between process design and component manufacturing and their effect on each other and cost
  • Explain how PI can be utilized in order to overcome the challenges faced by conventional processes.
  • Select an intensified reactor concept to overcome thermodynamic, heat-, or mass-transfer limitations for reactive processes.
  • Create, evaluate and compare process flowsheets using various economic, environmental and operational criteria.
  • Represent and generate process flowsheets and quickly screen the alternatives.
  • Evaluate a process using Time Scale Analysis to identify targets for MCPI, propose an MCPI-based design strategy, and assess component manufacturing processes.
