Studying Multiphase Flow and Liquid-Liquid Extraction in COMSOL Multiphysics®

Tune into this webinar to learn how to use two-phase flow models for studying liquid-liquid extraction processes and phenomena in COMSOL Multiphysics®.

Liquid-liquid extraction is a separation method that is often used in the chemical, food, and cosmetics industries. The principle is to extract compounds from a first phase into a second phase in which the two phases are immiscible.

We present two different models of two-phase flow involving immiscible liquids: surface-tracking and dispersed multiphase flow models. The surface-tracking methods can be used for mechanistic studies of droplet coalescence and breakup as well as for understanding the transport and equilibriums across the phase interface in detail. The dispersed multiphase flow model can be used to describe the flow and mass transfer between phases at a larger scale to design equipment for liquid extraction. The distribution of droplet size, coalescence, and droplet breakup mechanisms can also be included in dispersed multiphase flow models.

In this webinar, you will learn how to set up and solve the different types of two-phase flow problems for both 2D and 3D models. You can ask questions at the end of the webinar during a Q&A session.
