Process intensification (PI) is one of the most promising development paths for the chemical process industry and one of the most important progress areas for modern chemical engineering. PI approaches are being developed not just to improve process economics and efficiencies but also to improve process safety. One common example is the switch from batch to continuous processes as a way to improve the inherent safety of a process by minimizing the inventory of hazardous chemicals.

Process safety management is critical to implement when designing and implementing any process – intensified or conventional – and one must carefully consider the safety implications of any new process.

Join CCPS’ Program Director Anil Gokhale and the RAPID Manufacturing Institute’s CTO Paul Yelvington for this 60-minute webinar on the link between process safety and process intensification where we will explore:

  • What are both the potential pros (e.g., better control of exothermic reactions through microchannel devices) and cons (e.g., increased complexity of control systems for multi-function process equipment) of PI processes from a safety perspective?
  • How do process intensification and process safety techniques overlap and why is it important to consider both when designing processes?
  • What are important safety considerations to keep in mind when implementing intensified processes?
  • From both a PI and a process safety perspective, how do you identify and evaluate the potential of low-hanging fruit?

This webinar is part of ongoing Education & Workforce Development efforts of the RAPID Manufacturing Institute. Webinars are free to RAPID Members. This particular webinar is also free to employees of CCPS Member Companies. Any questions or issues during registration? Contact Ashley Smith-Schoettker at ashls@aiche.org
