Having good habits and focused ambitions isn’t enough to be successful in a research or creative career; it is also vital to have good ideas. Despite the importance of having good ideas, most researchers spend surprisingly little time examining how to generate ideas. Fortunately, it is possible to be systematic and successful in generating good ideas rather than waiting for lightning to strike. This talk will discuss a series of heuristics for generating ideas that can also be applied with great effect to scientific research.
