This presentation illustrates several analytical tools that are being used to characterize dynamic emulsion behavior with application to flow assurance. Results will be presented for interfacial tensiometry, acoustic spectroscopy, inflow microscopy, and diffusional NMR techniques. Insight from this work crosses length scales from the nanometer regime to macroscopic flow behavior. The effects of stabilizing agents including surfactants and solid particles are evaluated to investigate the resulting dynamic emulsion behavior and flow properties.

Dr. Aichele was born and raised in Stillwater, OK. In 2004, he received his B.S. in Chemical Engineering from OSU, and he directly entered the Ph.D. program in Chemical Engineering at Rice University. Dr. Aichele received his Ph.D. from Rice University in 2009, and accepted a position as a research engineer at ConocoPhillips in Bartlesville, OK.
