Monitoring and measuring KPIâs related to Safety are a common practice in modern industry. But, the effectiveness of a robust system can neither be ignored nor be overlooked. An effective Leading Indicatorsâ monitoring program focuses not only on Process Safety Performance but also on the Behavioral Safety and Operational Excellence parameters. Only then, can an organization build a realistic image and a practically effective Safety Management system.
World Class Safety systems therefore, focus on having a blend of multiple Safety Related performance indicators, in their due weightage, not limited to compliance numbers, as their drive to change.
The Process Safety Indicators (Leading and Lagging) optimized monitoring aids to enhance the safety performance. The in-depth comparison in the light of CCPS Process Safety leading and Lagging Indicator Matrices and American Petroleum Institute (API) Process Safety Performance Indicators for the Refining and Petrochemical Industries API-754 (Recommended Practices) will be shared.
