A new material developed by researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) that combines the flexibility of a polymer with the rigidity of a metal has implications for a range of applications, from drug delivery to gas storage and water filtration.

With energy densities ten times higher than conventional lithium-ion batteries, lithium-air batteries could one day enable electric vehicles to travel distances comparable to gasoline-powered cars.

A liquid with tiny holes floating around in it may sound like the stuff of science fiction, but that’s what an international team of scientists has created.
