AIChE's 35 Under 35 Award is offered on a 3-year cycle.  The award is being offered in 2026.  Read on for more information!

Every 3 years, with the support of the AIChE Foundation, AIChE and the Early Career Community recognize 35 outstanding AIChE members under the age of 35 who have made significant contributions to the field of Chemical Engineering and AIChE. Nominees can have made contributions through any of seven broad categories.

Bioengineering

Emphasis on the application of engineering to biologically based processes and biomedical and health-care-related applications, including but not limited to cellular and materials systems design, metabolic and cell engineering, food engineering and technology, pharmaceutical drugs and biologics, drug delivery, biomaterials, tissue engineering, and regenerative medicine.

Chemical & Materials

Emphasis on the design, generation, and characterization of chemical products and functional materials systems, including but not limited to inorganic and organic chemical products, composite materials, polymeric systems, and nanomaterials.

Education & Outreach

Emphasis on accomplishments as an educator, including but not limited to creation and effective implementation of educational methods, materials, and technologies.  Accomplishment as an educator is not restricted to an institutional setting and also includes outreach promoting awareness and learning of engineering disciplines. 

Energy & Environmental

Emphasis on energy production and/or consumption with emphasis on sustainable and efficient approaches, including but not limited to heat or other process integration, water resource management, mitigating emissions, advancing alternative energy sources, and shaping resilient processes.

Innovation & Entrepreneurship

Emphasis on innovative creations within engineering science, technology, or the economy, including but not limited to start-up companies.

Leadership

Emphasis on organizational or societal leadership, including but not limited to effective entity or project leadership, community service, or public thought-leadership.

Safety

Emphasis on improving process and/or personal safety for manufacturing, including but not limited to enhancing safety-instrumented-system (SIS) engineering and design, advancing certified functional safety expertise (CFSE and CFSP), and improving overall awareness that results in reduced safety incidents within the manufacturing industries.

Award Criteria

Each nominee must be nominated for a specific award category.  Winners will be designated and awarded in each category, totaling 35 winners overall.

Nominees will be critiqued on their involvement within AIChE throughout their career, their excellence shown in the specific award category, their professional activities outside of work relating to the award category, and their potential for future growth within AIChE and their career field.

All nominees must be current (2026) AIChE Pro members and AIChE Early Career Community (ECC) members. Please confirm this with your nominee prior to submitting their nomination. 

Each nominee must have been born on or after January 1, 1992.

Nominations will be reviewed by a volunteer review team consisting of experts in each of the award categories.  

Awardee Recognition

The 35 individuals chosen for this award will:

  • Have their profiles highlighted throughout AIChE and the chemical engineering community via CEP magazine, the ChEnected blog, and other AIChE media
  • Receive recognition at an awards reception at the 2026 AIChE Annual Meeting

Nomination Instructions

If you are interested in nominating an early career member for this award, please complete the online nomination form. The online form requires several written statements, as well as a letter of recommendation written by someone other than the main nominator. It is recommended that you review the nomination form questions first, then compose your statements and collect the letter of recommendation. Once your statements are complete and letter of recommendation in hand, copy and paste your statements into the correct fields within the online form and upload the letter.
