The South Texan is published electronically, in pdf format. It's won multiple awards including Best Newsletter in 2009 and the Marx Isaacs Award for Outstanding Large Section Newsletter in 2003. The publication date is appromately 2 weeks before the monthly meeting. The South Texas is published from the month of September through the month of May. The newsletter is not published in the summer months.

Newsletter Article Submissions

We accept articles that are of a pertinent nature to chemical engineering, AIChE, or its membership. Format of submissions isn't vitally important - we can accept email, a text file, Word, WordPerfect, a graphic (.jpg format), MS Publisher .pub file, or combination.  The font or font size isn't vital as that will be modified to fit the newsletter format and space available. Content may be edited for grammar and to fit in available space.

We promote activities by organizations that are related to AIChE, if we are a co-sponsor or are otherwise integrally associated with the event. We can also promote educational activities by AIChE chapters of universities.

We would not accept an article that was essentially "free advertising." These might include information on a new product or service, employment solicitations, or CE courses. Such items are accepted, but as paid advertising space.

If there is a question about a submission, the Communications Chair has final say as to whether it goes into the newsletter.

The South Texan, STS-AIChE's award-winning newsletter, is published nine (9) times per year. It is distributed electronically to our membership and other interested parties (nearly 1500 people, mostly chemical engineering professionals) approximately two weeks before each of our nine monthly dinner meetings (September through May each year). We have a three-month break during the summer.

Advertisements should be provided in high-resolution .jpg or .gif format. Microsoft Publisher (.pub) format is also acceptable. In some cases, .doc files are acceptable as well.
