American Institute of Chemical Engineers Launches Center for Energy Initiatives

The Board of Directors of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) has approved the formation of a Center for Energy Initiatives. In announcing the Center, AIChE President Henry "Hank" T. Kohlbrand said: "AIChE members are already working on energy-related issues from multiple perspectives. The new Center will help us network and 'cross-fertilize' and integrate ideas that can advance energy efforts across the board.

U.S. and Canadian Engineers Explore Safe Siting of Liquid Natural Gas Terminals

In a search for “cleaner” replacements for petroleum, several new liquid natural gas (LNG) terminals have come on-line in North America. However, applications for additional LNG facilities face serious challenges from communities concerned about safety. In response, members of AIChE and the Canadian Society for Chemical Engineering (CSChE) have identified issues that merit priority consideration when siting LNG terminals.

Micheal Domach Appointed Associate Editor of Biotechnology Progress; Will Succeed to Editorship

AIChE has named Michael Domach, professor of chemical engineering at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, associate editor of Biotechnology Progress, a journal published on its behalf by Wiley-Blackwell. Domach will succeed to the editorship after a period of transition with Jerome Schultz, chair of the Department of Bioengineering at the University of California, Riverside, who has edited Biotechnology Progress since 1989.
