Introduction
The application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has spread swiftly throughout academia, government and industry disciplines including chemical engineering. We may be on the precipice of fundamental changes in how traditional human roles in research, design, operations, and education are executed in the future. The rapid implementation and evolution of AI bring enormous uncertainty and risk. Inevitably, there will be astonishing benefits and unforeseen misfortunes. In this session, we will open with perspectives from an expert panel on the safety, environmental, ethical, and legal implications of AI application in chemical engineering. Then, we will invite questions, comments, and concerns from attendees in a town hall format. We welcome input on how AIChE can best serve our members in preparing for living and working in a future world with artificial intelligence.
