SIOC, AIChE’s Societal Impact Operating Council, is tasked with developing programs to address how chemical engineers, through AIChE, interface with the world at large that exists beyond the boundaries of our profession. Recent SIOC themes have included:
- growing the profession through efforts specifically focused on attracting women and minorities to chemical engineering,
- coordinating and fostering the work of members to develop the next generation of chemical engineers through educational outreach and scholarship programs, and
- expanding the global reach of AIChE through sponsorship of service projects in underdeveloped regions.
Recently, SIOC, in collaboration with AIChE’s Board of Directors, has been reexamining its core programs, to better align its efforts with the elements of AIChE’s Strategic Plan related to societal impact.
This online event's discussion will focus on the outcomes of that work, and describe the key areas of emphasis for SIOC in 2014 and beyond.
Opportunities for AIChE members to positively influence the way others see our chosen profession, through contribution to and participation in SIOC’s programs, will be highlighted.
