This presentation will highlight how the Center for Midstream Management and Science (CMMS) at Lamar University aligns academic research with the practical needs of the midstream energy industry. Dr. Alek Hutson will discuss current CMMS-funded research in areas such as methane detection, pipeline optimization, and real-time analytics, emphasizing how industry partnerships guide project selection and impact. The talk will also showcase CMMS’s collaborative training initiatives that bring students, faculty, and industry professionals together to highlight industry challenges as well as strengthen the regional energy workforce.

Presenter Biography:

Dr. Alek Hutson is the Associate Director of Lamar University’s Center for Midstream Management and Science, where he leads applied research and workforce development initiatives addressing real-world challenges in the midstream energy sector. A physicist by training, his work focuses on machne learning driven data anlytics, pipeline flow optimization, leak detection, and hazard mitigation through advanced modeling and data analysis.
