The Leadership Equity in Engineering (LEE) Application

About The LEE Program:

The American Institute of Chemical Engineers is working to increase women and individuals from underrepresented groups in executive leadership positions by providing an annual cohort-based program focusing on training to build the skills, behaviors, and critical tools needed to access board and executive-level positions. Cohort participants will experience on-going opportunities to raise their profile, build networks, and receive career development training and support towards attaining the next level in their organizations and career. The program calendar year will begin in May and conclude in February of the next year. Program components include:

  • Program participants meet six times annually per 2-hour session
  • Exposure to CEO level speakers and networking
  • Emphasis on EDI learning – AIChE’s IDEAL concept
  • Representation among multiple facets of industry
  • Opportunities to build smaller targeted networks and groups (ie, demographic, specific identities)
  • Program cost: $2000 per cohort member (up to 2-3 per company) (payment contingent upon selection) 

Eligibility:

  • Individual participant identifies as an underrepresented minority group or demographic
  • High performing (as determined by employer)
  • 8-10 years of progressive experience
  • Express a desire to move toward senior management roles
  • Complete application and approval

Size of The LEE Cohort:

  • The cohort will consist of approximately 25-35 members

Commitment:

  • Demonstrate a commitment to Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Anti-Racism, and Learning (IDEAL)
  • Attend all scheduled cohort meetings/sessions –May 29th 2024, July 17th 2024, September 18th 2024, October 16th 2024, December 4th 2024, February 19th 2025  (All on Wednesdays at 1:00pm – 3:00pm EST)
  • Complete IDEAL and/or leadership management professional development training 

Review Process:

Nominees will be evaluated by the selection committee panel.  Final candidates will be selected for the LEE cohort.

Candidates will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

  • Expressing a desire to move towards senior management roles
  • Experience in leading, managing, and influencing others
  • Interest and/or accomplishments in the areas within Inclusion, Diversity, Anti-Racism, and Learning
  • How the nominee will add value to the cohort

Selection process:

Applications are evaluated by a Selection Committee Panel composed of at least 3 but no more than 5 members. The Selection Committee makes its final recommendation for LEE cohort membership by Wednesday, May 22nd, 2024.
