Dr. Dowen is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics and the Department of Biology at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. Her laboratory investigates the link between genome organization and gene expression. The Dowen lab uses functional genomics approaches to interrogate the proteins, DNA sequences, and mechanisms that connect transcriptional regulation and control of chromosome architecture. Ultimately, Dr. Dowen’s research group aims to understand how the looping of DNA impacts the expression of genes within a cell and how dynamic changes are brought about during normal development and in disease contexts.
