Air Force Research Laboratory’s Asian Office of Aerospace Research and Development (AOARD)

Jermont Chen is the Deputy Director and Program Officer for Synthetic Biology and Chemistry with the Air Force Research Laboratory’s Asian Office of Aerospace Research and Development (AOARD) in Tokyo, Japan.  AOARD maintains awareness of Air Force-relevant basic research topics and is also charged with building research relationships between Asia, the Air Force Research Lab (AFRL), and US academic institutions.

Prior to his assignment at AOARD, Jermont was an Administrative Program Officer at NOAA’s Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory in Princeton, NJ.  He has also been a Branch Chief for the Fuels and Energy Branch in the Aerospace Systems Directorate at AFRL, an Assistant Professor of Chemistry at the Air Force Academy and adjunct faculty member in the Chemistry Department at Drew University, NJ. 

Jermont completed his PhD in Chemistry from Princeton University in 2008, master’s degree in Chemistry from the University of Oklahoma in 2003, and bachelors in Biochemistry from the Air Force Academy in 1994.
