STS-AIChE - 2018 Annual Houston Ship Channel Trip

Once again, the South Texas Section will journey down the Houston Ship Channel in the fully air-conditioned M/V Sam Houston on the evening of Saturday, June 2. The M/V Sam Houston will leave the dock at 6:00 PM sharp and return to the dock at approximately 7:30 PM.

Hydrocarbon Processing and AIChE Announce Strategic Partnership

Hydrocarbon Processing and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) announced its strategic partnership during AIChE’s 2018 Spring Meeting and 14th Global Congress on Process Safety in Orlando, Florida. The partnership will establish a relationship in which Hydrocarbon Processing will become the membership publication specific to the AIChE Fuels and Petrochemicals Division (F&PD).

The 2018 Process Development Symposium (PDS) is a place to exchange wisdom, knowledge, tips, and personal experiences in the development and scale-up of chemical and related processes. PDS provides an opportunity for process development professionals from all across the country to discuss their experiences with novel and innovative technologies to trigger radical changes in next-generation processes development and operations. This symposium, planned jointly between AIChE and its Process Development Division, is held annually in early June. This year’s symposium will take place in Oak Brook, IL on June 5-7.Read more

Chemistry, Technology, and Deployment of Natural Gas based Chemicals, Fuels, and Energy Systems

AIChE’s Center for Energy Initiatives (CEI) is hosting a consensus-building workshop on Aug. 12-14, 2018 in College Station, TX. This workshop brings together leaders in downstream natural gas conversion across industry, academia and government to discuss various perspectives on hurdles to technology implementation. Topics will focus on novel advances in natural gas conversion. NPSHA Calculation

This desktop application allows the calculation of net positive suction head available (NPSHA) for a centrifugal pump in either SI or US Customary Units. The user is required to input the necessary fluid properties as well as suction pipe parameters. The user must also select the appropriate piping configuration out of the four provided (the default is: open tank positioned above pump suction port). The user may also simulate NPSHA over a given range of flow rate at constant fluid properties. The results generated can be exported to Microsoft Excel for further manipulation and documentation.Read more
