5.  CALL FOR PARTICIPATION: ED-DIV CURRICULUM SURVEY

The AIChE Education Division Survey Committee compiles and shares information about the current state of undergraduate education. This year, we are focusing on chemical engineering in the first year.  We would be very grateful if you or another member of your department who is familiar with the first year courses would complete this survey.  We hope that this survey can be fully completed in 15 minutes or less by one member of the department who is familiar with the course offerings.

To complete the survey, please follow this link:  https://utulsa.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_0eTFekeJaU9OD9b

A full pdf of the survey is available at https://drive.google.com/file/d/1wDI5TiPgICj4Y4R6yAyLthNz0bivqpBu/view?usp=sharing in case you wish to prepare answers in advance or collaborate with other instructors.

We appreciate your participation by Oct. 14, 2019, so we can prepare our presentation for the Annual Meeting.

Previous recent surveys have been on Unit Operations Laboratory, Chemical Reaction Engineering, Thermodynamics, Design, Transport, Controls, Mass and Energy Balances, and the curriculum as a whole. Our collected publications archive is available through this Google drive link.   Questions?  Please contact Laura Ford (committee chair) at laura-ford@utulsa.edu.  Thank you for your help!

6.  CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS: AICHE K-12 STEM SHOWCASE

AIChE is excited to announce the debut of the AIChE K-12 STEM Showcase — set to take place on Sunday, November 10 during the 2019 AIChE Annual Meeting and AIChE Annual Student Conference in Orlando, FL – and we need your help to make the event a success!

During the AIChE K-12 STEM Showcase, K–12 students, along with their parents and educators, will receive an introduction to STEM and insight into a few different STEM career paths, interact with STEM experiments being led by teams of AIChE members, learn more about Chemical Engineering over lunch with real life ChemEs, and cheer on college students competing in the 21st AIChE Chem-E-Car Competition. The AIChE K-12 STEM Showcase will be totally free for K-12 students, parents, and teachers, and AIChE is looking to attract 100-200 local K-12 aged students to this event.

Here’s how YOU can help:

  1. Share the attached event flyer with a Central Florida area elementary, middle, or high school, scout troop, other youth group, K-12 educator, or parents/guardians of K-12 aged children in the Central Florida area.  You can also access the flyer here.
  2. Register to bring your own K-12 aged children or relatives to the event.  Advanced registration is required and space is limited.
  3. Swing by the AIChE K-12 STEM Showcase from 12:30-1:30 PM on Sunday, November 10, 2019 to interact with your ChemE peers participating in the 1st AIChE K-12 STEM Outreach Competition.  Your 2019 AIChE Annual Meeting or Annual Student Conference badge is required for entry.

Questions? Contact Emily Miksiewicz at k12@aiche.org.
