CANDIDATES FOR 2017 EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE


Nominated as Chair-Elect for 2017 (and to succeed to the Chair in 2018 and Past Chair in 2019)

Carlos Salamanca


Carlos is the current STS-AIChE Treasurer for 2015 and 2016. He has been an active member of the STS AIChE Young Professionals Board serving as Secretary, Treasurer, Vice-Chair and Chair. He also has represented AIChE with the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) events including OTC Houston, Arctic Technology Conference, OTC Brasil, and OTC Asia in different roles. Carlos is also active with Toastmasters, Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), and the Project Management Institute (PMI) Houston Chapter.



He has held several positions through different oil and gas projects. Carlos has been working with oil companies in Latin America with focus on Brazil, Colombia and Mexico.



Carlos earned a BS in Chemical Engineering from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, and received an MBA from the Bauer College of Business at the University of Houston. Carlos holds a PMP (Project Management Professional) certificate from the Project Management Institute, and an Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certificate from the Texas Board of Professional Engineers.

Megan Weeks


Megan Weeks is a Business Development Associate at Bechtel Hydrocarbon Technology Solutions, the technology and licensing arm of Bechtel, since March 2016.  Prior to this role, she worked as a Process Engineer at Bechtel on Chevron’s Offshore revamp projects.  Prior to joining Bechtel in 2012, Megan worked as a Process Engineer at Terrabon, a biofuels start-up here in Houston and College Station, Texas.

Megan has been an active member and frequent volunteer with the South Texas Section of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers since graduating with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Rice University in 2010.  She has also served in leadership positions in both the Bechtel Toastmasters group as well as Bechtel’s New Hire organization NextGen.

Swarup Kumar Bade


My name is Swarup Kumar Bade. I am an "IIT hawk" with a masters degree in chemical engineering from IIT, Chicago. Used to be a Bears fan, but moved on to Texans as it's been more than nine years I moved to Houston. I am a Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) working as a Process Safety consultant for Lloyd's Register. I have been registering for Chevron marathon and BP MS-150 for the past few years (Don't ask me how many times I finished the marathon though). Love being outdoor and volunteering for AIChE (Current Treasurer for STS)



Yurika Díaz Bialowas


Yurika Díaz Bialowas is a Senior Technical Support Engineer at Chemstations Inc, where she troubleshoots simulations using CHEMCAD Suite software, provides support to clients’ needs regarding engineering principals, process simulation, heat transfer, thermodynamics, installation and licensing. Yurika earned her BS in Chemical Engineering from the University of Calgary in Calgary, Alberta Canada. She has been an active member of AIChE since 2009.

Shubharthi Barua


I have been working as a Process Safety Engineer with the Chicago Bridge & Iron Company (CB&I) since September 2014, where I perform different process safety studies and provide input to the process engineering design for LNG and petrochemicals projects. Previously, I worked for the Fluor Corporation as a Process/Specialty Engineer where I worked on different challenging projects across a variety of oil and gas industries. I obtained M.S. in Safety Engineering from the Texas A&M University in 2012 and B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from the Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology in 2009. During graduate studies, I worked on developing dynamic risk assessment technique using the Bayesian network (MS Thesis) and during undergraduate studies, I worked on developing a technique for detecting plant-wide oscillations (BSc Thesis).

I was involved in different leadership activities since high school. I represented Bangladesh as a youth delegate in the National Youth Festival 2007 in India and hold executive positions in my high school and undergraduate university debating clubs. I have been involved with the STS-AIChE since 2014 as a Newsletter Editor. I would like to serve the STS-AIChE in the position of Executive Committee Position 1 (Continuing Education). I am confident that my job experience, leadership and communication skills would provide me advantages to serve STS-AIChE in this position.

Nick Gorzynski


Nick was born and raised in Buffalo, New York and graduated from the University of Buffalo with his BS of Chemical Engineering in 2007.  After graduation he took a field engineer position with Schlumberger in the Permian Basin working in the well construction and stimulation groups.  He then moved to Pennsylvania, and later Houston, to work at DNV GL where he held several positions including client support engineer, business development manager, and regional sales manager for a variety of software products.  Currently Nick is working at Virtual Materials Group as a Business Development Engineer responsible for client support, training, sales, and account management. Outside of work Nick enjoys traveling with his wife and two beagles, when possible.  Of course he is still an avid Buffalo Bills and Sabres supporter as well.



Sanjay Sharma


Sanjay Sharma is a Senior Principal Consultant with Honeywell.  He has over 35 years of experience in all aspects of Real-time optimization and Advanced Process Control.  He has been with Honeywell for over 26 years.  Prior to Honeywell, Sanjay worked for Shell Oil USA for 8 years.  Currently, Sanjay is a member of the Advanced Process Control and Real-time Optimization technical and marketing support team at Honeywell.

Sanjay has been an active member of AIChE for over 27 years.  Sanjay serves on the AIChE’s Ethylene Producers Conference’s Process Control subcommittee.  Sanjay is author of over 10 technical papers and holds 2 patents.

Kevin Allen


My name is Kevin Allen. I graduated in May 2015 from the University of Texas at Austin with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering. While at the University of Texas I worked as an undergraduate research assistant at the J.J. Pickle Research Campus for Dr. Eldridge. I worked on research projects involving divided wall columns and reactive distillation. I am currently looking for employment in chemical engineering. My technical interests include controls, process engineering, separations, and numerical methods. Outside of my job search, I enjoy camping, hiking, tennis, trying different craft beers, and hanging out with friends. Currently, I am the photographer for the Young Professionals meetings and I am seeking the position of Communications Officer for the South Texas Section.



Anthony Do


Anthony Do graduated in 2015 from Lamar University with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering.  In undergraduate study he worked on projects involving production of dimethyl ether, binary distillation, and separation of air into oxygen, nitrogen, and argon.  As a student he was a part of Sigma Phi Delta and the Honor Society of Chemical Engineering.  He joined AIChE as a student in 2012.  He continues to be an active in AIChE, as a Young Professional member of the South Texas Section. 

Anthony is fluent in both English and Vietnamese.  In his spare time he has served as a volunteer for both the Houston Food Bank and the Interfaith Ministries for Greater Houston.  He looks forward to continue serving as a volunteer while developing Communications for the South Texas Section.
