Pa. Shell plant is taking shape, says exec

Shell Chemical has installed most of the major components of its new plant in Beaver County, Pa., says executive Michael Marr. About 5,000 workers are on site building the plant.

Saudi Aramco, Motiva mulling 3 chemical projects in Texas

Motiva is seeking tax incentive deals for three chemical projects in Texas, including two aromatics and steam crackers and a $3.09 billion ethylene derivative plant. The company is reviewing the potential investment with parent company Saudi Aramco, which said in 2018 that it would spend about $100 billion on chemical investments over a 10-year period.

U of Pittsburgh studying efficient ethylene separation

The University of Pittsburgh Swanson School of Engineering is developing a separation method for ethylene that may result in a purer product while lowering costs for manufacturers. The system uses a porous, crystal filter and copper atoms to extract ethylene from ethane.

API's Sommers: N.M. at the forefront of the American energy revolution

New Mexico is at the forefront of America's energy revolution, according to American Petroleum Institute President and CEO Mike Sommers, who noted that producers in the state are "keeping costs low for the American consumer and we are doing it in an environmentally safe way." The state ranks third among states in oil production and set a new production record in 2018 with 250 million barrels.

US crude oil exports continue to grow

US crude oil exports increased by 966,000 barrels per day year-on-year to average 2.9 million bpd in the first half of 2019 and also reached a monthly record of 3.2 million bpd in June, according to the Energy Information Administration. Canada was the top buyer of US oil with volumes that remained largely steady, while Asia and Oceania and Western Europe increased purchases of US crude by 58% and 66% respectively in the six-month period.

US agency endorses Rio Grande LNG project

In a report published Wednesday, the US Fish and Wildlife Service said NextDecade's proposed Rio Grande liquefied natural gas export facility at the Port of Brownsville in Texas does not threaten the survival of the endangered ocelot and jaguarundi. NextDecade has promised to take several measures to reduce negative impacts on the two species, including rerouting part of its 135-mile Rio Bravo Pipeline.

Minn. regulators unfreeze Line 3 review process

The Minnesota Public Utilities Commission has given Enbridge 60 days to submit a revised environmental impact statement for its Line 3 replacement project and directed the state Commerce Department to make sure the document includes oil spill response modeling in the Lake Superior watershed. The decision by the state PUC puts the approval process for the crude oil pipeline back in motion for the first time in months.
