Possible OPEC production increase weighs on oil prices

News that OPEC and Russia may boost oil production caused oil prices to drop the most since July 2017, with West Texas Intermediate for July delivery down 4% to $67.88 on Friday, while Brent for July lost $2.35 to close at $76.44 per barrel.

US was world's top producer of petroleum, gas hydrocarbons in 2017

The US maintained the title of the world's No. 1 producer of petroleum and natural gas hydrocarbons in 2017, as production levels soared to new records, according to the Energy Information Administration. US petroleum production grew by 745,000 barrels per day last year as oil prices rallied to about $65 per barrel, while dry natural gas production was up by 5.7 billion cubic feet per day in the fourth quarter of 2017 compared with the first quarter.

Marathon Petroleum requests exemption from biofuels program

Marathon Petroleum, the second-biggest US refiner, has reportedly applied for a hardship waiver asking the Environmental Protection Agency to exempt one of its facilities from complying with the Renewable Fuel Standard for the 2017 calendar year.

Democratic lawmakers seek to bar drilling in Alaska refuge
