US matching Saudi Arabia in barrels per day

In the US, 10.9 million barrels of oil per day were generated for the week ending Aug. 10, comparable to Saudi Arabia's output, according to the Energy Information Administration. "With total US liquid fuels production up by more than 2.0 million bpd year-over-year, the United States has been the world's only substantive source of oil production growth so far in 2018 and more than compensated for production losses in some OPEC nations," American Petroleum Institute Chief Economist Dean Foreman said.

Investors battle for Permian Basin shale oil, gas

Diamondback Energy's deal to buy Energen for $8.4 billion is the latest sign that competition for Permian Basin shale oil and gas is attracting enough money to change the shape of the US shale business. The Permian Basin has attracted $30 billion in transactions this year.

Judge: Keystone XL pipeline route needs environmental review

US District Judge Brian Morris has ruled the State Department must do a full environmental review of the revised route of the Keystone XL pipeline through Nebraska before the project can proceed. He said the government is required to "analyze new information relevant to the environmental impacts of its decision," referring to a permit granted in 2017.

US District Judge Ed Kinkeade of Dallas ruled that a securities lawsuit accusing ExxonMobil and several executives, including former CEO and Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, of deceiving investors and the public about the impact of climate change on the oil giant's business can move forward.

Study: Biofuels could reduce nitrogen oxide, greenhouse gas emissions

Scientists at the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology examined nitrogen oxide emissions from alcohol fuels such as ethanol and found that these fuels produce lower nitrogen oxide and greenhouse gas emissions compared with conventional fossil fuels.

Single pump could quickly refuel EVs, hydrogen cars

Electric cars and their hydrogen-powered counterparts could refuel in seconds at the same location, thanks to a new flow battery produced by chemists at the University of Glasgow. The battery is comprised of two tanks of membrane-divided liquids consisting of a suspension of nanomolecules storing large quantities of energy that can be released either as electricity or hydrogen.

Court ruling reinstates WOTUS in 26 states

A federal court issued an injunction against the Environmental Protection Agency's delay of the Clean Water Rule, reinstating the rule in 26 states. US District Judge David Norton of South Carolina ruled that the EPA failed to follow aspects of the Administrative Procedure Act.
