China spares US crude from 25% tariff
China on Wednesday slapped 25% import tariffs on another $16 billion worth of American goods, including oil products and liquefied petroleum gas, but stopped short of including US crude oil. "Simply put, crude may have been a bluff -- and LNG could be too -- and energy scarcity may have led China to retreat from its threat posture," said ClearView Energy Partners Managing Director Kevin Book.
Continental increases production estimates, plans more rigs in 2018
Continental Resources plans to add three drilling rigs by the end of the year in North Dakota and Oklahoma and has increased its 2018 production estimates. The shale oil producer, which raised its annual exit rate guidance by 10,000 boe/d to reach as many as 325,000 barrels, plans to spend $200M on additional drilling and completions.
Ammonia may power future fuel-cell cars
Researchers at Australia's Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation have tested what may be the first hydrogen fuel cell vehicle powered by ammonia-derived hydrogen. A metallic membrane separates pure hydrogen from ammonia, which means that nonvolatile, energy-rich and easily transported ammonia could be used as the liquid fuel to power fuel cells.

The Bureau of Land Management plans to study the impact of hydraulic fracturing on public land in California as the agency considers allowing fracking and drilling on some 1.6 million acres across several counties including Santa Barbara, Fresno and San Luis Obispo.
