Trade jitters weigh on oil

September West Texas Intermediate crude and Brent for October delivery each declined in early trading today after reports that talks between the US and China could be canceled. Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia reportedly plans to export less oil than customers want next month.

Energy Transfer proposes VLCC-capable oil export terminal off Texas

Energy Transfer is looking to enter the oil export race with plans to build a deepwater crude export terminal near Houston capable of handling very large crude carriers. The terminal would be connected to Energy Transfer's facility in Nederland, Texas.

EIA reports unexpected US crude inventory build

US crude supplies increased by 2.4 million barrels last week to 438.9 million barrels, falling short of analyst expectations for a 2.8-million-barrel decline, according to the Energy Information Administration. Gasoline and distillate stocks also climbed by 4.4 million barrels and 1.5 million barrels respectively.

Oryx Midstream secures $550M investment from Qatar

The Qatar Investment Authority will pay roughly $550 million for a "significant stake" in Oryx Midstream Services, which operates or is building 1,200 miles of crude oil pipelines in the Permian Basin. The acquisition is part of QIA's commitment to invest $45 billion in the US.

US crude production seen growing at slower rate this year

Hurricane Barry's operational disruptions in the Gulf of Mexico prompted the Energy Information Administration to reduce its 2019 oil production growth forecast from 1.4 million additional barrels per day to 1.28 million additional bpd -- a total of 12.27 million bpd. However, the EIA expects 2020 production to rise by 990,000 bpd, instead of the initially anticipated 900,000 bpd.
