Hurricane Harvey Support

F&PD Members,

In the wake of Hurricane Harvey, on behalf of the F&PD ExCom, I would like to extend a special note of concern and support for our members, their families, and all the people affected in the region. With many of our members potentially affected in the Gulf Coast region, we are a community of chemical engineers who comes together and takes care of each other. F&PD is working along with the AIChE HQ staff in NY, and South Texas Local Section (STS) and F&PD to seek ways to help our community. The following plan is aimed at providing assistance to those affected:

·   Connecting those with specific housing  needs with other Chemical Engineers in the area that can help provide temporary housing

·   Finding office space for those who cannot get to their office

·   Donating food, supplies, and clothing to those where flooding has destroyed both their homes and home offices

·   Establishing a fund to those in the Gulf Coast Region.

The immediate need right now is to help our fellow chemical engineers who are in immediate need.  Observing how Social Media has been used by those who have been in need, we are going to utilize AIChE Engage which is the institutes social media site. Please direct your requests for housing, office space, food, supplies and clothing through the following Hurricane Harvey which will be monitored by both the South Texas Local Section and F&PD leadership.

In days to come, we will establish a fund to support the needs of the impacted AIChE members.

Our thoughts go out to all those affected and for the first responders and volunteer rescuers who have been so brave and determined to do so much to help until it’s over.
