James Nuñez

Dr. James Nuñez is an Assistant Professor in Molecular and Cell Biology at UC Berkeley. He earned his Ph.D. in 2016 from Jennifer Doudna’s lab at UC Berkeley, where he determined the molecular mechanism of foreign DNA capture by the Cas1-Cas2 integrase complex during CRISPR–Cas immunity in bacteria. He was awarded a graduate fellowship from the National Science Foundation and a Harold Weintraub Award from the Fred Hutch Cancer Research Center for his PhD research. Dr. Nuñez continued his training as a HHMI Hanna Gray Fellow in Jonathan Weissman’s lab at UCSF, where he developed genome-wide...Read more

Benjamin Rubin

Ben Rubin is the PI of Rubin Lab at UC Berkeley. As a postdoctoral fellow in Professor Jennifer Doudna's lab, Ben and colleagues created technologies that enable CRISPR-Cas editing of microbiomes. The Rubin lab continues to develop this platform while working with collaborators to apply microbial community editing tools to various microbiomes, such as those residing in human guts, cow rumens, and plant roots. Ben is also a co-founder of the non-profit Science Corps and, when not in the lab...Read more

Audrone Lapinaite

Dr. Audrone Lapinaite is an assistant professor at the Center for Translational Vision Research and the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of California, Irvine. Her research focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms of natural and synthetic DNA and RNA modifying enzymes, and advancing precision genome editing tools to treat genetic ocular diseases.

She completed her undergraduate and master’s degrees in biochemistry at Vilnius University (Lithuania), where she was working with Prof. Saulius Klimasauskas and Dr. Grazvydas Lukinavicius on the engineering of...Read more

Catalysis and Reaction Engineering (CRE) Division Endowment

The Catalysis and Reaction Engineering (CRE) Division Endowment will create a long-term financial stability and viability to meet division objectives. Additionally, will support, in perpetuity, division awards (such as Maria Flytzani-Stephanopoulos Early Career Award; CRE Practice Award), student travel fellowships, Pioneers of CRE D&I Lectureship and division sponsorship of EDI initiatives.

Travis Armiger

Travis Armiger graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering in 2013. Travis then went on to receive his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University in 2018. He was a member of the Dahl research group where his work focused on cellular biomechanics and how physical forces and the physical environment impact the way that cells behave. After his time at Carnegie Mellon, Travis moved into his current role as a Senior Scientist at Merck in the Chemical Engineering Research and Development group. At Merck his work is focused on process...Read more
