Air Liquide Invests Over 250 million Euros in European Semiconductor Industry
French industrial and medical gas production company Air Liquide plans to invest over €250 million into state-of-the-art industrial gas production units. Located in Dresden, Germany, these units aim to supply over 600 regional companies that make up the Silicon Saxony industry association with a large and continuous supply of ultra-pure nitrogen, oxygen, argon, hydrogen, helium, and carbon dioxide. This region is a hub of semiconductor production and innovation, and these enhanced gas supply chains will help grow and strengthen Air Liquide’s connection with the industry. The company plans to use 100% renewable energy for the facility’s operation.
ABB Invests in Canadian Manufacturing
The Swedish-Swiss electrical technologies company ABB is contributing CA$130 million — its largest investment in Canada to date — to create a greenfield plant to help meet the needs of utilities, renewables, transportation, and residential and infrastructure projects across Canada. This Montreal plant will consolidate the work currently being done at the Iberville and Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu facilities. The new 340,000 ft2 facility will be 33% larger than the previous plants and will produce power protection and grid resilience technologies. Integrating a variety of green heating and electrical systems into the facility’s design, the company predicts a 95% reduction in emissions compared to the previous plants. Investissement Québec, a Québec government corporation created for investing in local industry, contributed CA$16 million in funding for the project.
