Cato Laurencin

University of Connecticut (Chair)

Cato T. Laurencin, M.D., Ph.D. is a University Professor at UCONN. He is the 8th to be designated in UCONN’s over 130 year history. Dr. Laurencin is the Albert and Wilda Van Dusen Distinguished Endowed Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery, Professor of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, Professor of Materials Science and Engineering, and Professor of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Connecticut.

He directs the Institute for Regenerative Engineering and the Raymond and Beverly Sackler Center at UCONN.

Laksmi Nair

University of Connecticut (Secretary)

Dr. Lakshmi S. Nair is an assistant professor in the department of Orthopaedic Surgery at UConn Health and Department of Material Science and Engineering and Biomedical Engineering, UCONN. 

A significant part of Dr. Nair’s research is committed to developing injectable and biomimetic biomaterials and identifying bioactive molecules that could accelerate tissue regeneration. She has more than 100 peer reviewed publications and edited several books in the area of Biomaterials and Regenerative engineering.

Yusuf Khan 

University of Connecticut (Treasurer)

Yusuf Khan, Ph.D., received his Master’s degree and Ph.D. from Drexel University in Biomedical Engineering.  He is currently an Assistant Professor in the Institute for Regenerative Engineering and the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Connecticut Health Center.  He also has an appointment in the Department of Chemical, Materials, and Biomolecular Engineering and the Department of Biomedical Engineering within the School of Engineering at the University of Connecticut.

Ali Khademhosseini 

MIT (Board)

Ali Khademhosseini is Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Director of the Biomaterials Innovation Research Center at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

He is also a faculty at the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology as well as an Associate Faculty at the Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering and a Junior PI at Japan’s World Premier International-Advanced Institute for Materials Research at Tohoku University where he directs a satellite laboratory

Kevin Lo

University of Connecticut (Board)

Assistant Professor, Dr. Wai Hong (Kevin) Lo. With a Ph. D. in Biochemistry from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Dr. Lo works within the UConn Health with appointments in the UConn Stem Cell Institute, Institute for Regenerative Engineering, the Department of Medicine, the Department of Biomedical Engineering, the Institute of Materials Science, and the Connecticut Institute for Clinical and Translational Science (CICATS).

David M. Gardiner

David M. Gardiner is a professor in the Department of Developmental and Cell Biology at the University of California Irvine. He received his BA in Biology from Occidental College, his Ph.D. from the Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UCSD, and postdoctoral training at UC Davis.
