Overview

With the world population estimated to grow to more than 9 billion by 2050, the stress on limited fresh water resources is a growing concern.  With global water demand for manufacturing anticipated to increase by 400 percent from 2000 to 2050 according to the United Nations, maximizing efficient water use is a critical step for both the environment and the bottom line for industry.  According to the Carbon Disclosure Project survey, nearly a quarter of the 830 companies surveyed said that water-related issues could limit the growth of their business with conversations around water challenges increasingly becoming a boardroom topic.  With reduced oil and gas prices, downstream producers are increasingly looking to improve the cost efficiency of their processes and water efficiency.  The AIChE’s International Society for Water Solutions (ISWS) hosted a workshop to bring together leaders of downstream production and water technology experts to meet and discuss the latest advances in water efficiency improvements and water treatment solutions.  The ISWS is a technical industry forum focused on tacking critical water challenges for industry and bringing together scientists and engineers to develop solutions to the global water challenge.
