Pivoting your career and changing course in the middle of your career may be a bit scary, but it can also be strategic. Whether you are shifting employers, taking on new tasks, moving to a new city, or changing careers or industries altogether, there are a number of steps you can take to ensure that you achieve your goals in an efficient and satisfactory manner. We will focus on developing the strategy and employing the tactics to find an opportunity that is right for you, go after it, complete a smooth transition, and maintain a stellar reputation in and after the process. Let’s prepare you for your new adventure!
Wanna land your dream job? Get ready to network! Most jobs and other game-changing career opportunities are not advertised, and even if they are, there is usually a short-list of candidates already in mind. So how do you find out about and access the 90% of jobs and other opportunities that are "hidden"? In this presentation, we will focus on proven networking strategies and tactics to identify new opportunities, locate decision-makers within organizations, solidify your reputation and brand in the minds of those who hire, and gain access to hidden jobs and game-changing opportunities. Discover how networking and self-promotion can enable you to land or even create your dream job from scratch!
Chances are you’ll be moving between many different jobs in your lifetime. In this presentation, we will discuss how you transition between jobs, in the most professional, productive, and appropriate manner so that you maintain your networks, advance your brand and reputation, and showcase your dedication to the industry and community. You will receive a check list of tasks you should do before, during, and after your career transition, and we will also address mitigating conflicts as you leave one employer or team for another, and how you can continue to nurture collaboration opportunities with your previous colleagues.
Conflict is a natural part of team engagement, but there are specific ways to manage, mitigate, and possibly even prevent conflicts from arising. In this presentation, we will discuss how to handle conflicts and forge a relationship with the other party that demonstrates your professionalism, and your interest in collaboration. Communication is the key, of course, and case studies will be analyzed.
Don't forget that there's much more on how to catalyze your career - with sessions on jumpstarting your career, findind your style of problem solving, AIChE's role in licensing and career planning, and more.
