Dr. Tim Cooper, Ortec's R&D Director for Life Sciences
This technical presentation provided specifics on biodegradable polymers. Degradable polymers are examined from a life science perspective, focusing on the design and application of materials that balance performance with environmental responsibility. Case studies highlight advances in hydrolytically degradable polyurethanes, polyesters, and related systems for consumer, packaging, and biomedical uses. Emphasis is placed on tailoring structure–property relationships to achieve controlled degradation, mechanical integrity, and processability. It highlights the commercial development of PLA, its renewable feedstock origins, and its dual role in sustainable packaging and advanced biomedical applications such as sutures, implants, and drug delivery systems. These innovations are situated within Ortec’s broader strengths in custom synthesis and life sciences manufacturing, underscoring the strategic role of degradable polymers in advancing sustainable, high value solutions across consumer, industrial, and biomedical markets.
This presentation will qualify for CE credit.
