Mayo Clinic cyclotron approved by FDA to produce radiopharmaceuticals
The Mayo Clinic's cyclotron facility in Jacksonville, Fla., has been approved by the FDA to manufacture nuclear medicine radiotracers, including F-18 FDG for cardiac, cancer and neurological imaging; F-18 NaF for skeletal metastatic disease imaging; C-11 choline for recurrent prostate cancer imaging; and N-13 ammonia for cardiac imaging. Production of future radiopharmaceuticals approved by the FDA can also be accommodated at the facility, according to the Mayo Clinic.

Manufacturers, veterinarians see promise in animal health biotech
The falling costs associated with genetic testing and development of biotech therapies means those treatments are finally becoming accessible for pets, and the itch-relieving treatment Cytopoint has shown how successful biotech treatments for animals can be, said veterinarian Cheryl London of the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University. Dr. London said estimates indicate there are five to 10 companies working on biotech treatments, including an immunotherapy that is now being tested for treatment of canine cancer in a clinical trial at Tufts.
Indonesian researchers working on catalyst to boost palm oil biofuel
Indonesian researchers are working on a new chemical catalyst that accelerates the chemical conversion of palm oil into biofuels. The Bandung Institute of Technology is working with the Pertamina Research and Technology Center, connected to the state-owned oil and gas company, in the hope of ramping up biofuel production.
