Biotech food companies shift to cultured meat
The cultured meat phenomenon is slowly gaining entry into markets and more companies are advancing the technology in the US and Europe, among them Just, Memphis Meats, and Mosa Meat of the Netherlands. Consumers will soon see a shift in the production of cultured meat and switching to "this more efficient method of production would have many potential benefits for Europe, such as helping to reduce emissions of methane that contribute substantially to climate change," said Peter Verstrate, Mosa Meat's CEO.
Breakthrough therapy status granted to apabetalone
Resverlogix announced it has been granted breakthrough therapy designation for its candidate apabetalone for use in combination with standard care to prevent major adverse cardiac events in patients diagnosed with type 2 diabetes mellitus who experienced recent acute coronary syndrome.
NIH halts HIV vaccine trial due to inefficacy
The NIH has terminated a major clinical study developing an HIV vaccine after it was determined by an independent panel that no protection was provided by the injections against the virus. Data from the review showed that among those given the vaccine, 129 developed HIV infections compared to the 123 who received a placebo.
