ACS-AICHE Workshop on Identifying the Gaps and Opportunities in Graduate Education to Improve Sustainability in Industries

Dear AIChE-SEF  members:

You are cordially invited to attend the AIChE-ACS workshop:

 "Graduate Education to Address Industrial Needs for Environmental Sustainability Chemical Industry".  

The workshop will convene industry, academia, and government to explore the topic of environmental sustainability and graduate-level education — what is needed in graduate school to prepare students for the chemical industry? Presentations and small-group breakout sessions will develop a clear picture of the existing state of education in this area and the gaps that must be addressed to meet the needs of the chemical industry. 

The workshop will take place during the AIChE National Meeting in Pittsburgh on Thursday, Nov. 1st, 2:30 – 5pm. More info is here:

 The workshop will consist of presentations, small group breakouts for answering questions, and report outs of small groups to larger group. An expert will present on each of the topics (questions) to cue up the small group discussions. Invited speakers include Prof. David Shonnard and Dr. Valerie Patrick among the others. 

Topics for Presentations and Small Group Breakouts will include:

1. What is the current and future state of environmental sustainability in the chemical industry for process development R&D and Product development R&D

2. What are the educational aspects to be included in Master’s and PhD programs? 

3. What is the potential role of regulation and government to encourage environmental sustainability.
