Opportunities for Young Professionals in Management Division (MGT)

This month, we sat down with Nemoy Rau, Management (MGT) Division Chair, to discuss opportunities for young professionals in this AIChE Division.

1.     Tell us a little about MGT?

The success or failure of a company is dependent upon its leadership.  The Management Division shares leadership techniques and evaluates their effectiveness based on real experiences.  These topics include strategy, culture, financial analysis and valuations, IP and R&D strategies, marketing and commercialization decisions, and project management.  The management division is leading the changes in the institute to keep current with the evolving needs of the AIChE members in the areas of entrepreneurship and innovation, professional development, and project management. The division is involved in many ways including programming and events at AIChE annual conferences, webinars, and AIChE Institute courses.

One area particularly interesting to Young Professionals is entrepreneurship. Please join us for our special programming events in Salt Lake CIty including Skiing, Snowboarding and Innovative Chemical Engineering; How To Entrepreneur Workshop; The Entrepreneurial Chemical Engineer.

2.     What benefits have you received from becoming a member of MGT?

Joining the division enables you to engage in conversations that are happening within industry where young professionals may not yet have exposure. Case studies are given as a mechanism of studying in top business schools. We extend this to include a forum to talk about strategy and management decisions that are happening in all industries as a mechanism to learn from other's mistakes and effective leadership decisions. We strive to give high quality quarterly management seminars that can enable our members to become effective leaders and valuable resources in the marketplace.

3.     What opportunities are available for members to get involved? What is a good way for Young Professional Members to get started?

Engaging in our discussions can be an effective way to learn more about higher level strategy. We are looking for young professionals to instill this mindset at annual conferences in our upcoming new awards, competitions, seminars and executive interview series. We are looking for new directors and leaders that can take on high-level projects from marketing, consulting, commercialization and strategy topics.
