Encourages excellence in publications by a younger member of the Institute. The award is presented to a member of AIChE, or in an unusual situation, to members jointly, for significant contributions to chemical engineering through publications. The award candidate must have earned his or her highest academic degree within twelve (12) calendar years of the year in which the award is presented. (For the 2021 award cycle, the Colburn Award candidate must have earned his or her highest academic degree between 2009 and the present.)
Addendum, January 30, 2020:
AIChE's Executive Committee is considering modifying the Colburn Award calendar year requirement as follows: “Approved leave (maternity, paternity, elder care, etc.) does not count towards the twelve-year limit.”
The change, if implemented, would be effective for the 2021 award cycle.
Please contact the Awards Committee (awards@aiche.org) if you have a nomination that would have been impacted if this modification were in place for the current (2020) award cycle.
