AIChE Cleveland Section December 2021 Newsletter, The Future of Nuclear Power Generation

As the world and the country try to go green, many are taking a fresh look at nuclear power because as non-emitting power source. Previous lectures have covered, how is power generated from a nuclear reaction, what is the process for splitting of the atom, why is the nuclear reaction different than conventional power generation. This lecture will go into proposed new designs for nuclear power plants. We will discuss the current state of nuclear development and look forward to what is on the horizon both in the US and abroad.

Hydrogen Equipment and Component Failure Rates Workshop

The purpose of this workshop is to come to a consensus within the industry around the appropriate failure rates to use when conducting Risk Assessments for Hydrogen sites or projects.

Scott Turn

Scott Turn is a Researcher on the faculty of the Hawaii Natural Energy Institute at the University of Hawaii.  Over the past 20 years, his research has focused on biomass resources in Hawaii and their utilization.  This work has been supported by both the public and private sectors. David Tonjes

Dr. David Tonjes research interests are Solid Waste Management, Impacts to Ground Water from Local Waste Management Facilities, Long Island Ground Water Dynamics, and Sanitary Waste Management Impacts on Local Estuaries.

He currently serves as a Graduate Program Director and Research Associate Professor at Stony Brook University in the Department of Technology and Society.

Neil Black

Neil has over twenty-five years of senior management experience and plays a key role in the operations, development and financing of CalBio projects. Lauren Ray

Lauren Ray is an engineer within the Dairy Environmental Systems group of PRO-DAIRY. Her past experience has spanned from energy system research and development to energy generation project application and implementation, primarily within New York State. Lauren’s expertise includes energy system economic analysis and New York State climate and energy policy. Lauren has a B.S. in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from Cornell University and a M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology.
