Brent Shanks is the Mike and Jean Steffenson Professor in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering and Director of the NSF-Engineering Research Center for Biorenewable Chemicals (CBiRC) at Iowa State University.  He was a research engineer from 1988-1997 and department manager from 1997-1999 at Shell Chemical Company.  He received a B.S. Mark Shiflett, P.E. is a Technical Fellow at DuPont in the Central Research and Development division at the Experimental Station in Wilmington, Delaware.  He has a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from North Carolina State University and a M.S. and Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Delaware.  He has worked on a variety of DuPont programs and most recently been leading a team of research scientists studying new applications using ionic liquids.
