Microfluidics Module

The latest addition to the COMSOL Multiphysics simulation software, the Microfluidics module provides easy-to-use tools for studying microfluidic devices and rarefied-gas flows. The module is designed for such application as lab-on-a-chip devices, digital microfluidics, biosensors, electrokinetic and magnetokinetic devices, inkjet technology, and vacuum system design.

PumpScout.com

PumpScout.com is a dynamic search engine that connects thousands of pump buyers with pump manufacturers and suppliers and provides a quick and easy way to compare price quotes. Buyers can enter their pump system criteria, including whether they want service from a local or national supplier, and the search engine identifies suppliers that sell the pump they need. The site features more than 80 pump suppliers and their product lines, including Blackmer, AMT, Ruhrpumpen, Griswold, Wilden, and Cat Pumps.

SafeSPEC 2.0

SafeSPEC 2.0 is an interactive, web-based tool for identifying and selecting the appropriate personal protective apparel. Users can input specific hazard scenarios and the product selector tool will show which product best matches that particular environment, or they can search by parameters such as fabric, design, certification, and EPA or OSHA designation and hazard. Up to five chemicals can be input at once to identify which garments offer resistance to multiple threats.

DeltaV Analyze V2.0 software

DeltaV Analyze V2.0 software helps process automation operators manage alarm system performance to meet the new industry standards for alarm management engineering practice, ANSI/ISA 18.2-2009, “Management of Alarm Systems for the Process Industries,” and the forthcoming complementary standard, IEC62682. Nuisance alarms are a common problem in industrial plants, and the ease with which alarms can be implemented has led to alarm overload, alarm floods, and incorrectly prioritized alarms — all of which diminish the effectiveness of control room operators.

Barracuda v14.4

Barracuda v14.4, the latest computational ?uid dynamics (CFD) software specialized for modeling ?uid-particle ?ow problems in industrial applications, provides the ability to predict erosion in chemical plant equipment caused by particle-wall impacts. Based on the Computational Particle Fluid Dynamics (CPFD) numerical method, which combines a Eulerian approach for the ?uid with a Lagrangian formulation for the particles, Barracuda is a specialized form of CFD designed speci?cally for modeling of ?uidized systems.

Rockwell Automation Energy Evaluator

The Rockwell Automation Energy Evaluator is a free online tool for evaluating energy management behavior and identifying opportunities for improvements. It provides a complete analysis of current water, air, gas, electric, and steam (WAGES) management performance, and enables a company to compare its operating strategies with those of peers in the same industry and across other sectors. After the user completes a 20-min online assessment, the software generates a real-time report outlining the plant’s WAGES management baseline.

Alph 1.5

The latest version of Alph 1.5, a ?uid property and process calculator for the Apple iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch, now includes an option to increase the library of compounds to over 5,600 and add VMGThermo’s non-random two-liquid (NRTL) model to the existing Advanced Peng-Robinson and steam packages. This greatly extends the range of process simulation tasks that can be addressed and is a cost-effective approach for users whose needs or budgets do not require a full process simulator. Alph uses the same VMGThermo engine that powers the VMGSim process simulator.

PlantESP

PlantESP is the latest addition to the LOOP-PRO suite of process control diagnostic and optimization solutions. It actively monitors the performance of a production facility’s PID controllers, and isolates and corrects underperforming regulatory control systems. It also alerts users to performance issues related to a plant’s mechanical final-control elements and process limits, and provides timely plantwide analysis, customized communications, and actionable recommendations for reestablishing effective control.

Academic Access Program

A new access program will provide academic users with a range of chemistry software tools, as well as free training licenses for academic courses and low-cost group licenses. Any postgraduate, PhD, or postdoctoral student enrolled in a degree program can apply for free, one-year named-user licenses for desktop products (FieldStere, FieldAlign and FieldTemplater). Free licenses will include upgrades but not technical support. Short-term free training licenses may be available for university course training and teaching purposes.

SimSci-Esscor VISUAL FLOW version 5.4

The SimSci-Esscor VISUAL FLOW version 5.4 is the newest edition of the flare and relief network design simulation software that aids process and safety engineers in designing, modeling, and documenting plant fluid-flow systems. Version 5.4 provides expanded simulation capabilities through point-by-point thermo-dynamics and pressure-drop calculations to handle the toughest single- and multiphase fluid-flow systems. Fluid equilibria and physical properties are calculated by industry-standard thermodynamic packages with comprehensive pure-component databanks using SIM4ME Thermo.
