(35c) Early-Stage Strategy and Planning for Achieving Cost-Effective Commercialization of New Processes

Authors

The journey from process discovery to commercial deployment of any new process involves the intermediates steps of process development, piloting and technology demonstration. Commercialization cost depends on the size of the intermediate pilot and demonstration units, the type of experiments and duration of these experiments in these plants. Early envisioning of a final commercial process scheme and plant capacity helps to efficiently identify the right size and kind of these intermediate units. Also, early-stage identification of technology risks enables the planning of experiments required for adequate technology derisking. In addition, understanding and analyzing organizational skills and availability of in-house resources can help identify the need for collaboration and external third-party resources that can be leveraged during the journey. This presentation will address the influence of these factors in achieving cost effective new process commercialization.
