An Embroidered Battery for Wearable Biosensors

Engineers at the Univ. of Massachusetts Amherst (UMass Amherst) have developed a thread-based battery that can be stitched into fabric and used to power wearable biosensors for health monitoring. Commercial portable biosensors such as the Apple Watch or Fitbit are typically worn wrapped around the wrist. These smart watches can measure health metrics such as blood pressure and heart rate, and have become increasingly popular with consumers.
