Reduce Dust Explosions the Inherently Safer Way

This article is aimed at the development of a framework for dust explosion prevention and mitigation that explicitly incorporates the principles of inherent safety. As distinguished from engineered and procedural safety features, inherent safety seeks to remove hazards in the first instance, thereby addressing both the frequency of occurrence and the consequent severity components of risk. Case studies involving dust explosions and inherent safety considerations are also presented.
