In High Vacuum Unit (HVU), vacuum gas oil is recovered from long residue feed. Vacuum gas oil yield, reliability and operability depend on correct design of the vacuum transfer line. Correct and safe design of Transfer Line also prevent excessive cracking and enable a longer run length before decoking. A simulation model is developed for analysis of HVU transfer line flow velocity and pressure drop profile considering flashing along the line. Cases of both normal operation and start-up conditions are considered. Subsequently, a thermal and a vibration analysis model were also developed to look into the thermal stress and vibration safety of the design. In this presentation, we will discuss the complete workflow of simulation analysis highlighting the critical aspects in the correct and safe design of HVU Transfer Line.
