With Industry 4.0 and digitalization efforts transforming the chemical industry, data is available in high quantities, yet there is a skill gap in the workforce to deal with these mass amounts of data. Building data literacy skills enables the effective use of data for business outcomes. Gartner defines data literacy as âthe ability to read, write and communicate data in context, including an understanding of data sources and constructs, analytical methods and techniques applied â and the ability to describe the use case, application, and resulting value.â In this panel we will discuss how the chemical industry is finding a path to data literacy for its workforce, how to promote a culture of data literacy, how to overcome data literacy challenges, and the role of universities in enhancing data literacy skills in the workforce.
