

SARS-CoV-2 â the viral pathogen responsible for the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak âhas exposed some of the key limitations facing current infectious disease management strategies. A need, therefore, exists for inexpensive and robust tools that can be broadly deployed to accelerate diagnosis and provide real-time data to improve decision making. To address this, we propose to integrate smartphones with a portable molecular diagnostic platform (based on LAMP) to rapidly detect viral genetic material in the human samples using machine learning. We also incorporate a thermodynamic model that can significantly decrease the assay optimization time and rate of false positive of LAMP reactions.
